“Aside from the best players rising to the top once again this year, the biggest news of the tournament was 12-year-old Julian Chalmers of Winlaw, British Columbia. He won the Intermediate title sinking 92 20’s in the round robin tournament. He then went on to compete in the adult singles division where he placed fifth with 91 20’s, just out of the final round playoff.”
There were a total of 441 players in this year’s competition. For more details and photos go to www.worldcrokinole.com ~~ Tournament was held at Tavistock, Ontario last weekend.
BC crokinole players have competed for the title three different years. This year was their best showing yet. We congratulate Julian on his amazing playing against the best in the world. Julian won in the preliminary with a big lead but lost his focus in the finals and ended up placing third in the Oliver Tournament. I knew at that time with a bit of coaching on just a few simple things he had a chance in the world championship. He displays the greatest sportsmanship with a wonderful attitude. I think everybody at the BC tournament fell in love him. For a 12 year old too go up against the best seasoned players of the world says how good he is. As you can see by the Tavistock Gazette he nearly turned their world up side down!
