The Golden Mile trail starting from Reed Cr. To Tinhorn Cr. across to Hester Cr. Winery should be maintained.
Places of interest: Reed Cr. Stamp mill not visible now. F. Piper’s Cabin site, at the very top opening on the south side of Read Cr. Boon’s Cabin ( now burned down ) on the south side of Read Cr. : The ski runs next to Toggle Cr. Used by the Morning Star Ski Club (1949) The Fairview Cemetery fenced and marked above the GMT. The trail to the upper shaft of the Smuggler Mine. The trail down the hill to the fences of the Golf Course. The Trail to the Smuggler Mine Tunnel and the area of the Stamp Mill: The trail to the Tinhorn Mine ( not disclosed) The trail to the Tinhorn Stamp Mill. A natural bridge crosses above a deep gully created by a flood of creek water. Lower down the trail crosses Tinhorn creek on to the Hester Cr. Winery. The Tinhorn workings were completed in 1897 and produce 1400 grams of gold and 467 grams of silver.
The Smugger Mine included a 10 stamp mill. Production from 1939 to 1973 produced 3763 grams of gold and 2643 grams of silver 93 kg of lead and 174kg of zinc. The area has been used for recreation as long as I can remember and is not damaged by people using the area. There is evidence of recent Logging above the trail. Yellow Pine grows in the area and up slopes are firs. Grazing Cattle have trails along the slopes that act as catch basins for rain runoff. In closing I should like to say that people have used the trails since 1890 and therefore the trail should be grandfathered and open to the public to view the valley and wonder about past activities.
