A tentative accord has been reach called the “Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement”.
SD #53 trustees voted in favour of the wording reached with three Indian Bands in the schools district that calls for a shared responsibility for the success of all aboriginal students.
The agreement has goals that call for more parental involvement, better choices of education courses allowing future advancement and the honouring of culture, languages, and history of the Okanagan people.
The Upper Similkameen, Lower Similkameen, Osoyoos Indian Band and the Ministry of Education must agree to the terms of the agreement and a signing ceremony is planned for this September.
