Town Council in Oliver has passed a contentious bylaw imposing environmental and riparian areas conditions on land use but excluded three parcels of land in the 87th Street area.
Bylaw 1293 had stalled following a public hearing May 9th and was brought back for consideration last night.
Council had heard professional advice from town staff, the environmental planning contractor and town lawyers prior to the decision.
No members of the public attended the Town Hall meeting. The vote 3 to 1 with one councillor not in attendance. Carried.
The OCP amendment bylaw sets some controls on all other land “designated on mapping” including much of the land north of Lions Park, hillside land west of Oliver townsite and creek beds in the industrial area.
Manager Tom Szalay told council that the town can now include any area where a registered professional has deemed a land feature to be covered by the bylaw.
