Saturday I was talking to Shane Pont and Bob Hiibner about the old Elks Honor Roll display created 1942/43 which named about 160 local people serving with the armed forces and was originally situated outside the Elks Hall.
In 1946 Major D.W. Hodsdon, Government Agent, requested that the Elks move the Honor Roll to the front of his office at what is now the Town Office. The Honor Roll disappeared in the 60s I believe and no one in the Elks can find out what happened to it. I have put out a request for information through my website www.mayorpathampson.com.
And it would be helpful if ODN would publish this request also. This Honor Roll is avaluable memento of Elks community involvement and a moment frozen in time whenour soldiers were at war so if anyone can provide any information please forward it to me at pahampson@telus.net.
Thankyou,
Pat Hampson,
Mayor, Town of Oliver
