In a media release this morning Town of Oliver Director of Operations Shawn Goodsell says crews are taking preventative action to assist with possible flooding in the Oliver Community Park area adjacent to Wolfcub Creek. Map shows where action taken in last 24 hours. “We had some breach of the banks in a couple areas with Wolf Cub Creek. We had our Public Works Crew out there creating a berm of sand in one area (with equipment) while we made sand bags and hand placed them in another section. We also had our backhoe clean debris fronting all culverts to insure we kept the creek flowing and nothing backing up. The flows have gone down but we will keep everything in place for the next month because of more potential rain and run off (snow pack about 145% in our area this year). The Oliver Parks & Recreation employees first brought it to our attention because the creek runs right past some of society buildings and they have a culvert to the river that is grated, so they have to constantly clear debris when it is flowing like this.
Overall, it seemed unusually high compared to most years. We have also pre-bagged more sand bags in case we need more in the near future… .”
