Culturally Welcoming Volunteer Programs
For Non-Profit Organizations
Most local non profits and volunteer-based organizations will agree that they have an ongoing challenge in finding volunteers. To help these groups successfully recruit and retain volunteers, including new Canadians, the South Okanagan Similkameen Volunteer Centre, in partnership with Volunteer BC, is offering a free two-day event on
May 25 and 26 at the Elks Hall in Oliver.
This program is for staff, board members and executive directors of non profits, festival organizers, PAC executive, volunteer coordinators of sports, arts and cultural groups, officers of service clubs and key organizers in churches. Face-to-face sessions focus on developing a culturally welcoming volunteer philosophy; on deepening participants’ understanding of new Canadians as volunteers and growing what groups are already doing well.
We are seeking applications from groups that are actively interested in reaching out to immigrant populations across all non-profit sectors. Please contact Corinne Janow, Community Liaison at 250-498-0754 or email info@volunteercentre.info for more information and a registration form. Deadline for registration is May 18.
