The Fraser Institute has released its controversial report on educational standards in BC high schools. As a service we are showing you a fast way to access this information. To be fair the education industry in BC has always been critical of the findings and the methodology of determining such statistics. The following from the Fraser Institute’s web site:
- Among the 65 countries/economies and 10 Canadian provinces that participated in the 2009 PISA international testing, BC ranked 8th in science; 8th in combined reading; and 16th in mathematics.
- The five-year-average rating (out of 10) in this Report Card was 8.3 for independent schools and 5.9 for public schools. Over the past five years, 12 independent schools, and no public schools, enjoyed five-year-average ratings of 9.0 or higher.
- Among the 54 schools with a special needs enrollment in the top quartile and for which there were 5 years of data, 14 (26% of the total) enjoyed five-year Overall ratings of 6.0 or greater.
- Among the 58 schools with average parental income in the bottom quartile and for which there were 5 years of data, 15 (26%) enjoyed five-year Overall ratings of 6.0 or greater.
