Balloting according to Canadian Press was heavier than in 2008 with about 70% turnout.

BC Southern Interior results
Incumbent NDP MP Alex Atamanenko received more than 50% of the votes cast winning his seat. Tory Stephen Hill received less than 40 percent of the votes.
Penticton Councillor Dan Albas, new to federal politics was elected to our north in Okanagan Coquihalla. Albas received more than 53% of the votes to NDP’s David Finnis with less than 25% of the votes.
Nationally, Stephen Harper PC has won a majority government with Jack Layton NDP becoming the leader of the opposition. The Liberal Party and the Bloc Quebecois were thrashed in this election with both leaders defeated in their ridings.
