Young man in custody after
2 Osoyoos Businesses destroyed by fire.
On May 1, 2011 at 8:30 A.M., the Osoyoos Fire Department and the Oliver/Osoyoos RCMP responded to a large structure fire at the Osoyoos Christian Thrift Store in downtown Osoyoos, BC. Despite the best efforts of fire crews, the entire building was destroyed, which also housed a neighbouring business, the Dollar Store. Adjacent buildings suffered damage as well. Both businesses were vacant at the time and no one was believed injured in the incident. The fire is believed suspicious and Penticton South Okanagan-Similkameen Regional General Investigation Section (GIS) has assumed responsibility for the investigation. An 18 year old Osoyoos male has been arrested in connection with the fire and is presently being held in custody. The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing and RCMP will update the media and community as more information becomes available for release.
