Trustees who voted for a closure process about a month ago – reversed gears tonight to wild audience applause and talk of closing Tuc el nuit Elementary is a dead issue for now.
Many children, students, babies, parents, educators and media crammed into a small space at the board offices for a regular meeting of trustees which heard a delegation from Save Oliver Schools. That delegation stated – please don’t close our school.
Trustees later in the meeting voted to stop the consultative process – but it could be reactivated if enrolment continues to decline and funding protection from the province is withdrawn.
The board said funding protection was received and a review of of the budget indicated that no closure of any school is needed at this time.
At the recent BCSTA convention in Vancouver – a motion sponsored by SD#53 received approval of all BC school trustees that called on the ministry of education to supply funding protection for all Districts in the province.
