On the surface this brief commentary is about poles, signs, the need for cheap electricity, traffic, photography and anything else you might want to think about/rant on a gray day. I set out this morning to get a quality picture of the Communities in Bloom banners at either end of town. Almost impossible – their placement in the south end close to the new mall and in the center of a busy area of many poles, signs and wiring.
I am not safe in this arguement based on a decision I made but here goes. If you look at the Main Street area of downtown – one feature is the lack of exposed wiring. No poles, no wires. Good decision (1990) in the past. To be fair, it is costly to bury electrical lines but we do it for water and sewer as a matter of policy. In new subdivisions underground services are mandatory.
Some day visual beauty will be thought of as healthy, a de-stressor in a too-busy world. Everywhere I go – overhead electrical, phone, cable lines disturb the sky line. Sad.
And yes, that sign on the right is one of our good customers. Turn left at 350th – Drop in today.
