Thursday – SOSS Hornet 90 St. Thomas Aquinas (North Vancover) 72 – played in Kelowna
SOSS started out again with inconsistency spotting St. Thomas Aquinas a 15-5 lead, and like a roller coaster the Hornets stormed back to close quarter down by only 3 24-21. In the second quarter the roller coaster ride continued as we fell behind again by as much as 17 only to close out the quarter down by 11, 48-37. The the third quarter started out much the same as the first two and then SOSS showed up for the last 6 minutes as they went on a 37-8 run.
Sparked by strong defensive play by Austin Basso, and tough rebounding by Blake Miller Yuckin, Raj Bahniwal, the rest of the Hornets kicked it up a notch to take a 17 point lead. The 4th was an up and down affair by SOSS were able to play well enough to win the game 90-72.
Raj Bahniwal led the Hornets with 21 points and was named player of the game. Blake Miller-Yuckin added 20 in a solid performance followed by Austin Basso with 19 as he was named defensive player of the game. It was good to see more consistent play from Anmol Dhaliwal with 9 points and Gurshan Dhaliwal who played well at the point.
Wednesday SOSS Hornet 67 Maggie Mustangs 73 – Penticton wins
The Hornets have now fallen 2-1 in league and 9-6 against BC teams, and are 10-10 overall as we are currently on a 5 game losing streak. I think the loss tonight in a weird way may have lit the fire for the team, time will tell.
SOSS did not start the game well as they spotted the Mustangs a 16-3 lead, and in Hornet fashion this year we surged back, only to allow the Mustangs to race back out to a 39-22 half time score. It did not help that we shot 0% from the 3 point line and 12% from the the field. In the third quarter it was much the same as we would play tough an cut the lead only to have a mental let down allowing Princess Margaret to surge out again. The good thing though was we cut the lead to 11 by the end of the 3rd quarter 55-44. In the 4th the Hornets seemed to wake up as they closed the lead to 5 late but they could get no closer as they fell 73-67. The team only made 3 of 33 from the 3 point line, this must improve. Austin Austin Basso led the team with 19, Gurshan Dhaliwal 16 and Blake Miller-Yuckin had 12.
