The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan is pleased to announce the opening of the 2014 Granting Cycle, which closes on February 7, 2014.
In 2014, the Community Foundation will disburse more than $215,000 to charities throughout the South Okanagan and Similkameen. This brings a total granting to more than $1,500,000 in the 22 years of serving the South Okanagan and Similkameen.
In 2013, 123 grants totaling $211,000 were awarded to charities throughout the South Okanagan and Similkameen. These grants were paid from investment earnings on more than $7 million in endowment funds.
Grants were paid out to 11 different areas of need: health, arts & culture, social services, administration, children & youth, scholarships, environment, sports & recreation, heritage & restoration, seniors, and animal welfare.
Grants may only be awarded to registered charities and qualified donees which including municipalities, regional districts, and school districts. Grants cannot be made to individuals.
Each year, the Foundation, based on priorities and funds available, determines the size and range of grants. The final decision on all grants rests with the Community Foundation Board on the advice of an independent Grants Committee.
Applications are encouraged that reflect need in the community, impact a significant number of people, build effective community partnerships, improve organizational effectiveness and plan for continuation of the project beyond initial funding.
